Thought of the day: Be Humble

While we are here on earth, the journey is not easy. Life can be so rough ride and tough a times. But wear a humble heart and keep going with the journey. Successes come into our lives when we attain our goals. We have different concept of our success. It could be graduating from high school and moving into college life. Then obtaining college degree is another milestone of success. Or get promoted to a managerial position or any position you hold in the office that you consider is fulfilling in your career is an accomplishment. This is worth celebrating, but keep in mind that humbling yourself in the midst of success is wonderful. Acknowledging that our success is a blessing from the Lord. We cannot do them without His help. Be boastful in the Lord for He is good. Even in our failures we still be humble. In our relationships with others we still be humble. If we make mistake then apologize. If it is not easy to say it, think of being humble then you have the courage to say, I am sorry. Pride is our downfall so do not even go there. Humility brings joy to you and to others.

Keep in mind be humble in your day to day life.

Thought of the day: Be Yourself

Being yourself is the best thing to think about. You do not have to please NO one except God. It is a great thing to ponder that being ourselves, we can act or speak without following anybody. We do not have to be like the actress or actor we see in the movie star. We can just be ourselves. We can accept ourselves as who we are. And ultimately, we can love ourselves as who we are. I remembered when I was in high school our Christian Living teacher used to say that “If you love someone, love him/her as who he/she is”. It is not the money that they possess or the physical appearance that you want to love them. It is not a conditional love. But accepting and loving that person as an individual because God created us to be unique. Therefore, we can be ourselves as to what God plans us to be. He has a purpose for us to be on this earth. In our journey on this beautiful planet earth, we should be walking with head high as being ourselves are the best thing to do. Keep wading or trodding as being yourself. Then you do not have to worry on pleasing others.

Keep in mind to be just yourself wherever you will be.

A Story Something to Tell

The flight from Houston to Florida was exciting. The weather was beautiful. There was no rain. The flight was smooth except with one tribulation when the plane encountered a turbulence. In the middle of the flight there was a shaky moment in the plane. There was an announcement that everybody take their seats and to buckle up. The flight stewardesses were kind and friendly. They made sure that everybody was safe and attended to passengers’ need. No bad accidents happened. Everyone on board came off the plane safely.

There was one student that came off from that plane who attended to a University in Florida. She went to the school for her graduation. She arrived in Florida the day before the commencement.

But the student had to go back to the airport to pick up her niece who arrived later that Thursday night, as she wanted to attend her aunt’s graduation. It was kind of her niece to make time to come for such a memorable moment.

The morning of the day of commencement, all students were required to report to the school for the practice of the walk. On the student’s assigned seat had a Chick fil A complimentary breakfast. So, the student and her niece went to get breakfast. As they pulled over to the parking lot nearby the dumpster, a man was standing beside it. He had a sign on his hand that said “hungry, need help for food”. The student told her niece that she would get food for the man. The man was so happy to get food and was very thankful for the kindness act.

After breakfast the student and her niece had to go back to the University. As they look for a parking lot, they could not find a spot. Most of the spaces were taken. They drove and drove. Finally, there were only few spots on the student’s section. They kept passing that student parking area until, it dawn to the student that she was one of the students of the University and that she had the privilege to park on that section. Her niece thought that was funny situation, therefore she called her sister and her sister’s reaction was that she could hear her aunt’s voice. Then she also called her cousin and her cousin said that was my typical mother. Finally, she called her dad and his reaction was “ hahaha…”

One of the highlights of ceremony was a speech delivered by one of the students. I got a very good impression on what she said that with our profession if we google ourselves what have we contributed to the society. To the people we serve. I thought it was amazing that what you can impact to one’s life as physical therapist.

The students were given a briefing that morning that all students must NOT use any cellphone during the ceremony. However, during the ceremony when this one student’s turn to walk on the stage, he got his cellphone and took a selfie of one of the professors. Everyone laugh and clap their hands.

Everybody got their diploma and went to their respective friends and family to celebrate.

How to manage lymphedema?

When you notice that you are developing swelling, first step to do is to check with your doctor. You should be diagnosed by your primary physician for you to address the problem.

It is advised that you get referred to a certified lymphedema therapist to help you manage the lymphedema. Find in your area that are certified lymphedema therapist and get help.

Simple tips in managing lymphedema:

Skin care: You must take care of your skin. Taking a shower or bath to clean your skin is one way of taking care of your skin. Apply moisturizer lotion to keep it from drying. When you leave the skin dry, it is easily getting nick or cut even just a little scratch can be potential of organism to enter your body. And this may lead to infection such as cellulitis.

So, use lotion such as Eucerin, curel or aquaphor lotion.

Do not use blade razor if you want to shave your legs. But instead use an electric razor. You want to avoid nicking from the blade razor.
Avoid hot spa. Because of the heat, it can increase the swelling.
If you love sun bathing, you must consider NOT to do that because the heat from the sun can also exacerbate the lymphedema.

When life has more troubles
When miseries are too many to bear
It seems, it is so much darkness
Remember this season is provisory
This hump might be vast
But be NOT despondent
Be NOT despair either

Let NOT your focus on these things
Let the mind be centered on God
Whose shining lights always flicker
Do NOT keep the journey alone
No ONE should stride and trod solo

God sends people to rescue
Be mindful of your surroundings
One might be just the angel
That the heavenly brings your way

Everything is changing and fleeting
Even the high tides and low tides in the oceans
So, seek ways of being joyful
Happiness is within your grasp
Look at the flowers in the garden
The beauty of the colors or the shapes, and aroma it brings
Appreciate them as this can be good for your soul

The grandeur of God’s creations is many
Therefore, our lives are more worth traversing of this momentary season of life.

What is lymphedema?

Lymphedema is the slowing of flow in the lymphatic system.

Imagine a drainage that is blocked, there is slowing stream of water. Consequently, there is some pooling of water somewhere. This is similar to what is happening with lymphedema. It has some blockage so that the fluids tend to pool somewhere. For example there is swelling in the legs or arms.

There are 2 types of lymphedema:

Primary lymphedema: is hereditary or congenital. The onset can be at young age like at teen age or puberty and is called praecox. Praecox is a Latin term meaning very early. The other one is called Tarda. This means that the onset is at older age like in the third decade.
Secondary lymphedema: could be caused from surgery such as removal of lymph nodes for example in mastectomy or lumpectomy. Radiation can also trigger the onset of lymphedema.

Keep an open mind set in approaching this problem will help you manage the disease well. First of all you have to understand that there is no cure to this problem .But the good news is that you can manage the swelling or this can be controlled. Staying on top of keeping this under control at all times are the key.

Thought of the day: Be Hopeful

In our journey in life, we encounter the ups and downs in life. When you ride a recumbent bike with a setting of random you will find that the resistance goes up and down. It begins with low load and as you keep going on, the loads become difficult, then it goes back to light resistance then up again to hard loads. But in spite of that you continue until your time is completed. So as our lives. We do have moments of difficulties whether financial, relationships or other hardships that we deal day to day in our lives. When we become hopeless, we think of life seems so unfair, but we have to think beyond the desperation. For there is always hope that God gives us. It is free. We just need to open our minds and hearts that even though of all the helplessness season in our lives, there is a ray of hope. The sun will always rise in the east. The bright side is there. One thing to think about is that no matter how heavy the loads we carry, we just need to ponder and place them under the feet of Christ. Prayers are so powerful. If we humble ourselves and give it all to God, He will definitely lighten up the yoke we carry. Always think of the good side. There is always a solution to a problem. When you seek God’s help, He will be there to help. It might not that very instant moment but later on. Be patient and His answers are always there. But you have to ask Him first.

Keep in mind that in the midst of hopelessness there is hope.
