Rhay

The place was so quiet and full of serenity. The sun was shining bright in midday. A cry was heard so loud. A girl was born. She weighed 6.8 pounds. Her height was 19 inches. She had beautiful black eyes and angelic face. Mother and father were so delighted to see their pretty daughter.

They were debating as what to name their daughter. Dad suggested to name her Rhay, but mother had a second thought.  She also had a name in mind which was Maggie.  Dad suggested to put the names together. That was such a good idea mom said. Therefore, they   came up to an agreement that since both liked the names they had, so why not just combined the two names together. The girl was named Rhay Maggie.

Rhay grew up to be kind and obedient child. Her parents taught her good values and most of all the faith to the Lord. Rhay had so much love to the Lord. After she helped her parents in the farm, she made time to run to the church to attend mass.

When she was 18 years old, she lost both of her parents. She was despondent of her lost. She did not know what to do as she was totally lost. She felt so alone. How can she support herself? Who can she confide her problems? She was so close to her parents.

At first, she asked God, why He took her precious family. She blamed God for everything. She was on a brink of giving up her faith. Because she was so overwhelmed that she could not breath. That very moment she asked the Lord’s forgiveness. She realized that God was bigger than her problems. She remembered that her parents taught her to be strong in the midst of trials.

She pursued going to school in college. During the day she worked in the farm and at night she took classes. Her life was hectic, but she was determined. She managed to work and study until she finished school. She was humbled and happy that through the years of focusing in school and supporting herself independently, she was able to get a diploma.

She taught in school. She shared to students the experiences she had. She was hopping that through telling them her stories that they will learn to never give up. And that there was reward of having perseverance amid challenges. Doing good deeds in the middle of crisis were worth remembering.

Village

There was this village that was so rich in resources. The soils were so fertilized and healthy.  Palingkay was the name of the village. It was abundant of corns and sugar farms.  Coconut trees were also dominant in the village. Besides plantations the villagers had live stocks in their backyards. They had chickens, pigs, goats, and cows. Most of the farmers owned a carabao for them to use in plowing the soil. The villagers were very diligent on working on their farms. They woke up early in the morning to get started preparing their farms for sowing the seeds of corns or the sugar canes. They did not have any of the modern equipments. But the people in the village were very happy and prosperous.

A couple lived in this village. They had 3 girls and 3 boys. They believed that children were treasured from above. The father was the chief of the village. He was a very noble man. The villagers had great respect of him. He led his village with wisdom and justice. Chief Pako had a wife and her name was Lalay. She was beautiful lady and had good heart.

One day, a villager came to look for the chief that he needed his wisdom to solve his problem. The chief was asking what problem he had? The man said that he owned chickens but one of them, his neighbor claimed to be his own. The chief told the man that on Monday at dusk time or before the sunset he will meet him in his backyard. Monday came and the chief arrived around five in the afternoon. The chief was observing as to where the chicken will go. At first the chicken went to the neighbor’s backyard. The chief thought at first that the owner was the neighbor. But as it was getting darker and darker at night the chicken went to the man’s backyard and stayed there along with the rest of the chickens that the man owned. And for the rest of the night the chicken did not go anywhere but stayed with the flock.  So, the chief then declared that the true owner was the man.

Thought of the day: You do not have to be perfect

The ride to our friend’s house was worth remembering. As we drove with a friend, we had this conversation of different countries with different philosophy engrained to people. One that stood out was one of the Asian’s countries who believe of perfection of their work. He shared to us that if one worker feels that he or she is a failure he or she committed a suicide. The conversation continues with expressing our opinions that regardless of not being successful of some point, there is still hope of making it better. There is only one and absolute perfect and that is God. We can strive for excellence, but it is okay if it is not perfect. Life goes on of having imperfection. Giving up at some point might not be the great choice, but keep pressing on to get it right would be the best route.

Keep in mind that being imperfect is okay. Strive instead to be excellent.

Thought of the day: Be Joyful

In this time of Christmas, God teaches us to have joy. Jesus comes to this world so that we have joy. In our day to day life, it is hard to find joy. But if we do things with joy for example in our work environment or doing our household chores, if we put joy, we become happier. We can plan better and come up with good decision. On the other side, if we have negative thoughts, it makes our mind blurry in our thinking and sometimes the decision we have may not what we want.

We do not let our stresses get into us, because we become grumpy and moody. As we go through our daily routines, we get distracted, especially when things do not go, how we want it. Further, I have seen too many times on the news   about road rage. Instead of having anger within, make a positive turn around and find joy while driving on a busy road or stuck on a traffic. This is the time we re-focus, enjoy and do things heartily.

Begin with little things by telling ourselves to be joyful every day. We are given the choice to be happy and have joy. When we have joy within, the people that surrounds us, will become happier and joyful as well. We become like a magnet that attracts people’s attention as they want what we have – joy. So why not choose the best – to be joyful and happy. Keep spreading joy daily.

Keep in mind to always have joy and enjoy your life daily. Choose to live joyfully.
